Eastside Region

LOW avalanche danger exists at all elevations.  Perilous "slide for life" conditions and a plethora of variable and challenging surfaces remain our greatest hazards.  Identify features of concern, be prepared for hard and slick surfaces, and be on the lookout for isolated areas of unstable snow.

A brief low-pressure system will impact the forecast area today bringing cooler temperatures and increasing winds.  These factors will work together to limit the potential for loose wet instabilities today. Nevertheless, intense solar radiation during the day could lead to some superficial warming on solar aspects, particularly if the winds are less than expected.

Variable and challenging surface conditions are more likely to be front of mind today. Be prepared for a wide variety of surface conditions if you decide to head into the backcountry.  Objectively, the largest hazard in the backcountry is the hard and slick surfaces that dominate the forecast area. Even an otherwise innocuous fall could easily lead to a perilous “slide for life” situation. Be aware of your exposure to terrain hazards such as long steep slopes, cliff bands, tight rocky chokes, and trees. It is also important to be prepared with the proper equipment, boot and/or ski crampons and an ice ax may be critical even at lower elevations or in protected areas you may not typically expect to need them. Slow it down and remain vigilant if you find yourself in steep or consequential terrain.
