Chic-Choc Mountains
Danger d’avalanche
Points saillants
With a melt-freeze crust present at the surface, the main hazard in the mountains is the risk of an uncontrolled fall. Choose low-angle terrain during your travels over the next few days.
Confidence
High
- We have a good understanding of the snowpack structure and confidence in the weather forecast.
Avalanche Summary
No new avalanches have been observed or reported.
If you head into the backcountry, thanks for sharing your observations on the Mountain Information Network (MIN).
Snowpack Summary
A widespread melt-freeze crust is present at the surface throughout the mountains.
Below this crust, the snowpack is well consolidated.
At mid-elevation, the average snowpack depth is around 120 cm.

Terrain and Travel Advice
- Avalanche activity is unlikely when a thick melt-freeze crust is present on the snow surface.
- Although avalanches are unlikely when a hard crust exists on the snow surface, the crust may pose a slip and fall hazard.
