Avalanche Activity

The more recent wind slabs are rather small but in some cases prone to triggering.

In the last few days small wind slabs formed adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation. The wind slabs can still be released in some cases in particular on steep shady slopes and generally at intermediate and high altitudes. They are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in extremely steep terrain. Even a small snow slide can sweep people along and give rise to falls.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of new snow and wind, wind slabs formed since Friday in particular adjacent to ridgelines. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Over a wide area less snow than usual is lying.
