These type of avalanches occur when the surface snow becomes wet and loses strength due to strong sun or warm temperatures. Wet snow avalanches typically occur on slopes > 35 degrees. If you start noticing signs of surface weakening like roller balls or excessive sinking into the snow it is time to move to low angle terrain or terrain that is out of the sun (north facing terrain).
