Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect for the San Juan Mountains. New snow and powerful winds over the last few days have created dangerous avalanche conditions. Human-triggered avalanches are likely. Stick to slopes less than about 30 degrees without steep slopes overhead.

Avalanches will be largest on easterly-facing slopes where winds have drifted snow into thick, stiff slabs. Recent avalanches, shooting cracks, and collapses are all signs of unstable snow and signs to stick to lower-angle terrain.
