Points saillants

Above 8500 feet, riders and skiers could trigger dense slabs in steep avalanche terrain that has been loaded by winds over the last week. The likelihood of triggering these slabs will increase today as they are weakened by direct sunlight and rising temperatures before the next round of precipitation begins. Avalanches below 8500 feet are unlikely today.

Surface slabs that could be one to two feet in depth could be triggered in very steep terrain where recent wind loading has occurred. Yesterday a skier narrowly avoided capture when he triggered such slide in steep southeast facing terrain in the Tetons.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Friday is expected to begin with clear skies that are to become cloudy in the afternoon as another system enters the area. Scattered snow showers are to develop by evening. Temperatures are to rise into the upper twenties. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate. In terrain above 8500 feet, soft to dense slabs could be triggered in steep wind loaded terrain. A slight chance also persists to trigger deeper hard slabs in the Togwotee Pass forecast area.
