Points saillants

The general avalanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE today. Deep slab instabilities near the ground and a strengthening of the snow at the surface have combined to create VERY DANGEROUS conditions. This scenario is allowing riders and skiers to venture onto deep unstable slabs until a trigger point releases the slab. In Western Wyoming this week two fatalities, two serious injuries and several close calls have occured. One of those fatalities occurred as five riders traversed under avalanche terrain two miles North of Sheep Pass in the Greys River area. The riders sympathetically released a slab above them which caught, buried, and killed the middle rider of the gruop.
