At the upper elevations isolated pockets of wind slab formed by northwest winds lie upon an October crust and pose a hazard to humans who venture into steep avalanche prone terrain. Avalanches are unlikely at the mid elevations where the recent new snow mostly lies on upon previously bare ground and is less than a foot deep. Very little snow exists at the lower elevations.
At the upper elevations northwest winds have created isolated pockets of wind slab up to 18 inches in depth. These slabs lie upon buried surface hoar that sits upon a hard crust. These slabs could be sensitive to human triggers in steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones.
Some moisture in a westerly flow will bring periods of light snow to the region during the next two days. Skies will be cloudy overnight and into the morning hours on Tuesday. A couple inches of new snow accumulation are possible at the higher elevations. Temperatures will be in the teens at night and in the 20s in the afternoon. Winds will be west-southwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour. At the upper elevations the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Isolated pockets of wind slab up to 18 inches in depth could be triggered in steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones. Avalanches are not likely at the mid or lower elevations.
