Points saillants

New snow and winds have created slabs to one foot in depth on lee slopes near ridgecrests. Under the new snow slabs one to three feet in depth lie upon a weak layer of surface hoar and faceted snow at all elevations. These slabs could be started by backcountry users. A slide release may occur after the slope has been skied or crossed several times. Yesterday a soft slab 20 inches in depth was triggered sympathetically on a 31 degree northeast aspect slope near Mt. Taylor. Other very low angle slides have been reported.
