Points saillants
New soft slabs have formed in the backcountry at all elevations. At the upper elevations new slabs to eighteen inches in depth could be easily triggered by backcountry users on steep leeward slopes. At the middle and upper range of low elevations, pockets of new slab to a foot in depth could be triggered on very steep terrain and in cliff areas. Once triggered these slabs could pull out deeper slabs from earlier February snows that lie upon hard slick crusts. A skier was caught and partially buried yesterday by a small avalanche on a Northeast aspect of Maverick at 7800'.
