Points saillants

The general avalanche hazard for most areas west of and along the Continental Divide is LOW and is MODERATE in the upper Green River Basin, which experienced greater snowfall accumulations earlier in the week. Soft surface slabs up to 18 inches deep in the Upper Green River Basin and in isolated pockets up to one foot deep elsewhere lie upon slick old snow surfaces and could be triggered by riders or skiers who venture onto steep wind loaded slopes. Use caution on steep slopes with significant accumulations of snow from earlier in the week.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON AREA, PORTIONS OF THE TOGWOTEE PASS / CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AREA WEST OF AND ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA: The general avalanche hazard is expected to remain LOW. Mostly stable snow exists and avalanches are unlikely except in isolated wind loaded pockets. Use caution in extreme terrain, particularly on sunlit aspects where a strong sun crust provides a good sliding surface for both small avalanches and backcountry enthusiasts. FOR THE UPPER GREEN RIVER BASIN AND THE EASTERN AND SOUTHERN PORTIONS OF THE GREYS RIVER / SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREA. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Areas of soft surface slabs up to 18 inches in depth exist. Caution is advised on steep wind loaded slopes with significant accumulations of new snow. Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
