Points saillants

Crystal clear blue sky, primo spring skiing conditions and the Everitt Memorial Highway is OPEN. April Fools...none of that is true. For today, a modest storm will impact the area, with 3 to 5 inches of new snow expected in the mountains. Very strong winds are likely above treeline through Sunday. Watch for new snow combined with westerly wind that could create wind drifted snow near and above treeline.

Expect strong westerly wind above treeline. This paired with a few inches of new snow may create areas of wind drifted snow. Expected avalanche size is small to large. In the Eddy Mountains, where wind slabs may rest on older weak layers, larger avalanches with wider propagation could occur. Learn more about wind slab avalanches HERE.
