Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Moderately bonded windslab will continue to build on South-West through North to North-East aspects above 950 meters. These instabilities are localised and will affect wind-sheltered locations such as corrie headwalls, gully lines, and the leeward side of ridge crests. On other aspects and lower elevations, the snowpack will continue to consolidate and be generally stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Light overnight South-Easterly winds increasing to gale force during the afternoon. Light snow showers expected during daylight hours. The freezing level initially will be around 1000 meters, lowering to 700 meters by the end of the day. Observed Weather Influences: Increasingly light South-Easterly winds. Light showers in the morning cleared to give a dry afternoon with good visibility. The freezing level rose to around 1000 meters. ObservedSnowStability: Moderately bonded windslab is present on South-West through North to North-East aspects above 950 meters. These instabilities are localised affecting wind-sheltered locations such as corrie headwalls, gully lines, and the leeward side of ridge crests.. On other aspects and below 950 meters the snowpack continues to consolidate and is generally stable. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
