Avalanche Activity

Wet and gliding snow require caution.

The surface of the snowpack will cool hardly at all during the overcast night. As the day progresses as the penetration by moisture increases there will be a gradual increase in the danger of wet and gliding avalanches. At any time small and medium-sized wet and gliding avalanches are to be expected. This applies in all aspects and in all altitude zones. Moist avalanches can be released by people or triggered naturally. In particular on very steep shady slopes they can be released in the faceted old snow and reach large size in some cases. The gliding avalanches can occur even in places that are not usually affected. The avalanche danger is within the upper range of danger level 2 (moderate). Ski touring and snowshoe hiking call for defensive route selection.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to increasing moistening of the old snowpack in all aspects in all altitude zones. In the past few hours several medium-sized avalanches were observed. Some rain will fall in the evening. In the next few hours the weather will be warm.

Tendency

During the clear night the activity of wet and gliding avalanches will appreciably increase.
