Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche in newly drifted snow. Strong winds and new snow are building slabs in the Park Range and the Flat Top Mountains. Drifted areas can be identified by their smooth rounded appearance and the most dangerous areas are steep slopes below ridge crest, the sides of gullies, and on steep rollovers. Even a small slide can have big consequences if you get carried into a terrain trap. Shooting cracks and audible collapsing are signs you should move to terrain less than about 30 degrees.
