Avalanche Activity

Significant snow accumulation at the highest elevations.

During the last snowfall period, 35-40cm of new snow was added at the highest altitudes of the mountains. This amount already poses a threat in the form of small avalanches and landslides. The most dangerous are the couloirs, notches, places behind saddles and ridges - places where snow accumulates in larger quantities.

Snowpack Structure

The pressure low and the cold weather of the last few days have meant that the highest mountains have begun to maintain a snow cover, the thickness of which has a major impact on avalanche danger. The total snow cover reaches up to 60 cm in some places. The snow is still powdery in nature and is expected to become wetter, sink and lose height during the day.
