Wind slabs will develop today lee to terrain features with the W winds.
Expect loading lower than normal from the ridge top.
Avoid areas of obvious loading and practise safe travel technique if entering avalanche terrain.
Little change to yesterday with the forecasted winds not eventuating. A generally consolidated snowpack within the region.
Variety of surface conditions exist - Melt Freeze Crust on sunny slopes except for low angle areas. On shady slopes the snow surface is effected by the recent wind but staying cold.
Some Surface Hoar has been observed in sheltered areas but is unlikely to survive the increasing winds and precipitation forecast tomorrow.
A stormy day. Extreme W winds and snow/rain throughout the day. Snow to 500m with the FAFL dropping to 900,.
There is a slick layer in areas exposed to the wind and under thin layers of snow.
This will get worse today with the wind scouring. Ice axe and crampons are key for moving into steep/extreme terrain.
Expect to encounter it near ridge top and turn around early if so.

An unexpected accidental Persistent Slab avalanche was triggered on a W asp at 1980m yesterday at The Remarks.
This was wind loaded snow from earlier this week that had buried weak/faceted snow at the surface.
This is currently thought to be an isolated event but a great reminder to practise good terrain and group management no matter the danger rating. Low doesn't mean no.
