Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads,.

The wind slabs represent the main danger. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack. These avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Snow sport participants can release avalanches in some places, with a large load in most cases. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase in particular on extremely steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack, especially on shady slopes above approximately 1700 m. The more recent wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas.
