Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above approximately 1000 m.

The sometimes strong wind will transport the new snow. Over a wide area wind slabs will form. In the course of the day the previously small wind slabs will increase in size once again. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on wind-loaded slopes of all aspects above approximately 1000 m and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. Slab avalanches are possible. In addition the danger of avalanches will increase in the afternoon.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of the moderate to strong northeasterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack. They are to be assessed with care and prudence.

Tendency

In the afternoon danger level 3 (considerable) will be reached.
