Snowpack Structure

In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs will form. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack in particular at low and intermediate altitudes.

Tendency

In particular in the regions exposed to the foehn wind light snowfall above approximately 2000 m. Up to 2000 m rain will fall. As the snowfall level rises the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase as the day progresses. Gradual increase in danger of dry and moist avalanches in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation.

Avalanche Activity

Significant warming: Below approximately 2200 m the danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase.

As the day progresses as a consequence of warming there will be a gradual increase in the danger of moist avalanches to level 2 (moderate). This applies in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. In addition the wind slabs should be taken into account. The strong wind will transport the loosely bonded old snow. In particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls the wind slabs will increase in size once again. They can as before be released by a single winter sport participant. This applies especially on very steep slopes adjacent to ridgelines. At intermediate and high altitudes and on steep shady slopes more dry avalanches are possible, even medium-sized ones.
