Avalanche Activity

The new snow of the last few days represents the main danger. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines in all aspects above approximately 2000 m.

In some localities 0 to 5 cm of snow will fall above approximately 1800 m. As a consequence of warming and solar radiation a considerable danger of moist and wet avalanches will persist in some cases. On steep shady slopes the avalanches can be released in deep layers of the snowpack and reach large size. The current avalanche situation calls for defensive route selection. Areas with glide cracks are to be avoided as far as possible.

Snowpack Structure

The covering of new snow is moist. Avalanches can be released in deeper layers also. The new snow can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases in all aspects above approximately 2000 m.

Tendency

In some localities 15 to 25 cm of snow will fall above approximately 2000 m.
