New snow
- Above 2,200 m
New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.
New snow and wet snow represent the main danger.
As a consequence of the precipitation the size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. In particular on very steep slopes the avalanches can release the moist old snow as well and reach quite a large size. This applies in particular at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The fresh snow and the sometimes large wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant. Above approximately 2500 m in some localities danger level 4 (high) will be reached. As the moisture increases medium-sized and large moist and wet avalanches are to be expected, especially at low and intermediate altitudes. Wet avalanches can reach a long way in particular in steep gullies. Ski touring and snowshoe hiking call for experience and a certain restraint.
20 to 60 cm of snow has fallen since yesterday above approximately 2700 m. The southeasterly wind has transported some snow. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The weather conditions gave rise to significant moistening of the snowpack.
