The southeasterly wind has transported some snow. The mostly small wind slabs of Wednesday will be covered with new snow and therefore barely recognisable. As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind from southwesterly directions, wind slabs will form in the course of the day adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as above the tree line. They can be released easily, even by a single winter sport participant, in all aspects. At high altitudes and in high Alpine regions these avalanche prone locations are more prevalent. Afternoon: As a consequence of the solar radiation, the likelihood of dry and moist avalanches being released will increase on very steep sunny slopes. In the typical avalanche paths in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation the avalanches can in isolated cases reach medium size.
30 cm of snow, and up to 50 cm in some localities, fell on Wednesday above approximately 2000 m. This applies in particular along the border with Switzerland. Thursday: 5 to 10 cm of snow, and up to 20 cm in some localities, will fall until the afternoon above approximately 1500 m. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers. The old snowpack is favourably layered. A lot of snow is lying at intermediate and high altitudes.
The avalanche danger will persist.
