Regions

Glacier.

Snow has been slowly accumulating, but there is not sufficient coverage to link turns in most places. Early season obstacles like stumps, logs and rocks are the biggest hazard at the moment.

Confidence

Low

Avalanche Summary

Small wind and storm snow avalanches have been observed in the alpine. These were primarily in lee aspects, loaded up by recent moderate to strong SW winds

Snowpack Summary

Snow depth at Treeline ranges from 40-60cm. While depths increase a little in the Alpine... there is not enough snow to link turns in most locations just yet!

Weather Summary

Detailed weather forecasts can be found in the Mountain Weather Forecast.

Problems

Storm Slabs

Storm Slab avalanches are the release of a cohesive layer (a slab) of new snow that breaks within new snow or on the old snow surface. Storm-slabs typically last between a few hours and few days (following snowfall). Storm-slabs that form over a persistent weak layer (surface hoar, depth hoar, or near-surface facets) may be termed Persistent Slabs or may develop into Persistent Slabs.
