Avalanche Summary

Most slopes are generally safe from avalanches. You can trigger a loose avalanche on steep, northerly slopes near and above the treeline where you find weak, unconsolidated snow. These avalanches won't be large enough to bury you but they can knock you over and take you for a dangerous ride. If you choose to travel on steep northerly slopes, identify and avoid terrain traps such as lakes, rivers, cliffs, or dense trees below you.
