Recently wind-loaded slopes near ridgetops are the most dangerous. This is where thicker slabs rest on softer and weaker layers. Any avalanche you trigger can be wide and very hard to escape. You can find safer conditions on southerly-facing slopes and in wind-sheltered areas.
