Avalanche Summary

You can easily trigger an avalanche on many steep slopes. You can trigger avalanches from a distance. Avalanches in the recent storm snow could quickly entrain old snow or break down to deeper weak layers. That means slides could be larger and run farther than you initially expect. Avoid traveling in or underneath avalanche terrain. Your safer travel options are low-angle or wind-sheltered terrain.
