Avalanche Summary

A Special Avalanche Advisory is in effect from Friday evening through Sunday for the Grand and Battlement Mesas. A winter storm will dramatically change conditions, making it easy for backcountry travelers to trigger dangerous avalanches this weekend.

If you find more than about 10 inches of new snow, it will be easy to trigger an avalanche on steep slopes. Most of these will be small, but on some wind-loaded terrain features, they could grow large enough to bury you. Seek out wind-sheltered terrain with less than a foot of new snow, or avoid traveling on slopes steeper than about 35 degrees for safer travel.
