With one foot of new snow and strong southwest winds Saturday, slabs up to two feet in depth have been and could be human triggered on steep, wind loaded aspects at the mid and upper elevations. If triggered, these slabs could step down to buried weak layers of faceted snow or the ground surface to depths of four feet. Weak surface hoar underlies the new snow on all aspects making travel in avalanche terrain not recommended. A second avalanche fatality this season occurred Saturday in a Northeast facing bowl just south of Teton Pass. At the lower elevations avalanches are unlikely.
