Avalanche Summary

You are likely to trigger an avalanche in steep terrain you find more than about 8 inches of new or wind-drifted snow. Avoid rounded pillows of firm snow below ridgelines, along gully walls, and beneath terrain and vegetation breaks. If you experience cracking in the surface snow or feel drum-like hollow snow, head to lower-angled slopes or terrain sheltered from the wind with softer snow.
