The general avalanche hazard will be on the increase today. At the upper elevations pockets of new soft slab will form on leeward aspect and could reach depths of 12 to 18 inches by sunset. Older slabs up to two feet in depth also persist in isolated areas. Humans who venture into steep avalanche starting zones could triggered the shallow, soft new slabs and the deeper older slabs. At the mid and lower elevations isolated pockets of new soft slab up to a foot deep will form on leeward aspects and could be triggered in steep avalanche starting zones and on steep banks and road cuts.

Strong northwest winds will drift snow onto leeward aspect overnight. On Saturday skies will be partly cloudy. Winds will be westerly at eight to 12 miles per hour. Temperatures will be near zero in the morning and rise into the 20s during the day.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the upper elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). Slabs up to two feet in depth persist on steep, northerly aspects and could be human triggered. At the mid and lower elevations the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Avalanches are unlikely except in isolated pockets.
