The avalanche danger is LOW on all aspects and elevations and generally stable snow conditions exist. Watch for areas of unstable snow on isolated terrain features and be mindful of higher consequence terrain where even a small slide could carry you over a cliff.

Hard snow conditions exist and dangerous "slides for life" are possible. Be mindful of your exposure on steep slopes with firm snow, and consider carrying a tool for self arrest in the high country.

A low pressure trough will pass through the region over the next 24 hours. Unfortunately it will dip mainly to the south and east of us. Today look for mostly cloudy skies, light to moderate westerly winds, and highs in the 20's. We'll see a slight chance for snow around midnight tonight. Temps will plummet into the single digits overnight and clouds will begin to clear out. Wed will see more clearing skies, cold temps, and blustery N winds. Cold and dry conditions take over for the rest of the week.

Nothing new to report. Brian Hays was up yesterday and he confirmed things in this observation. Widely variable snow surfaces exist ranging from isolated areas of soft snow, to varying thicknesses of wind and sun crusts, to even ice and rock hard wind board. On sheltered shady aspects, snow at or near the surface is becoming loose and weak. This is something to keep an eye on when new snow finally comes.
