The snowpack is mostly stable. Avalanches are unlikely today at all elevations except for a slight possibility of triggering isolated pockets of shallow slab in high elevation extreme terrain. Continue to practice normal and safe travel techniques such as carrying avalanche rescue gear and travelling one at a time in avalanche starting zones.

This evening clouds have begun to roll into the area from the northwest. A quick-moving system is expected to impact the Tetons and Togwotee Pass forecast areas with one to three inches of new snow. Little to no accumulation is expected in the Southwest Trails forecast area. For tomorrow, skies will be mostly cloudy and the day will begin with a temperature inversion. Valley temperatures will start out below zero and the mountain in the single digits. Then the inversion should break by mid-day with valleys warming into the twenties and mountains in the teens. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds will be in the twenties gusting into the thirties. The avalanche hazard will remain Low in the forecast areas. Avalanche activity is unlikely except for isolated pockets of small surface slabs in steep terrain at the upper elevations. Sustained winds will continue to build these small slabs forming pockets large enough to knock someone off their feet and have high consequences in extreme terrain. Backcountry travelers should use safe travel protocols of traveling one at a time and carry rescue gear.
