Weather Forecast
The current weather pattern will have us with temperatures around freezing during the day and cooler at night. We can expect smaller snowfalls to continue over the next few weeks and a slow increase in snowpack depths at higher elevations. As snow depth increases, danger ratings will be needed for some of the lower elevation ares that are currently below threshold levels for avalanches to occur
Avalanche Summary
Remember if there is enough to snow to ride there is enough to slide! Numerous avalanches up to sz 2 on all aspects were observed on Friday October 28th. Two notable slides had come down in the ranger creek area, one over top of Lone Ranger and another coming down near RandD that buried someone's previous approach track. Natural avalanche activity will decrease over the next while but avalanches initiating in alpine terrain should be on your mind.
Snowpack Summary
In general there is around 50-60cm of snow at treeline elevations. This snow has seen some wind affect in alpine areas but in general, winds have been light out of the SW. Warm temps are promiting rapid settlement of the snow and for october its a great start! In Alpine areas there is a crust 10-15cm off of the ground that was felt with probing. Odds are this crust will facet out over the next month but it may be something to be aware of down the road.
