Generally speaking, the snowpack is pretty locked up right now with nothing really moving. No observations of new avalanches or instability have been reported or observed. Good timing right now for ice climbs or ski tours at treeline and below.

Summary

Weather Forecast

For Wednesday expect mostly overcast skies with light snow, although accumulations will be just a few cms. Temperatures will range from -18 in the morning to highs of -7 through the day and winds from the south will pickup in the afternoon into the moderate range. A relatively benign weather pattern persists for the next few days.

Snowpack Summary

Significant wind effect exists in all alpine areas with isolated wind slabs in steep lee areas of the high alpine. Soft surface snow remains just below ridge crests at treeline. The upper snowpack is faceting and this has diminished the sensitivity of wind slabs and rendered the four layers of surface hoar that exist in the upper snowpack dormant.

Avalanche Summary

No new avalanches observed or reported today.
