Avalanche Activity

Significant warming. Moderate danger of moist and wet avalanches will prevail.

As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep slopes above the tree line. Avalanches can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases. The avalanche danger will increase during the day, reaching danger level 2 (moderate). As the temperature drops there will be a gradual decrease in the avalanche danger towards the evening.

Snowpack Structure

Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The old snowpack is faceted and weak. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack. As a consequence of sharply rising temperatures and solar radiation a sometimes treacherous avalanche situation will develop. These conditions will cause a gradual weakening of the snowpack from midday in particular on very steep sunny slopes.

Tendency

As the temperature drops there will be a gradual decrease in the avalanche danger to level 1 (low) on Thursday.
