Gale strength winds and rain on snow before the main event this evening. The backcountry is going through a transition today. The avalanche danger will be increasing in the coming days.
Common sense will be required if the rain/snow event arrives early, we do know winds will be at gale strength. Avoid steep entries into start zones on lee aspects, not that you'll be able to stand given the wind strength. Initial bonding will be poor.
We are not sure what may happen to these deeper weak layers. Rain may percolate and strengthen this issue, or the weight of heavy snow may be enough to trigger an event. Avoid complicated terrain in start zones. It will be a wait and see situation.

Cloud and warm temps yesterday afternoon produced a very moist and in places unsupportive snowpack. Moist snow surface below 1700 m. Start zones and steep entries did see wind-slab development but not signs of avalanche activity. A significant burst of rain/snow is heading our way late afternoon. Re-frozen moist snow from mid-elevations will be icy and slick. Remember, many hidden hazards sit just below a thin snowpack.
Clouds building and rain this afternoon. Snow showers tonight. The wind is going to be an issue today. Severe gale NW winds, The freezing level rising to 1900 m as the rain approaches.
Slick conditions have developed. Be prepared, you will find icy, firm snow below 1700 m. Caution required in and around steep terrain.
