The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at elevated altitudes. They can be released by a single winter sport participant in isolated cases in particular on northwest to north to southeast facing aspects above approximately 2300 m. Caution is to be exercised at their margins in particular. Whumpfing sounds and the formation of shooting cracks when stepping on the snowpack are a clear indication of a weakly bonded snowpack.
5 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell yesterday above approximately 2000 m. The new snow is very loosely bonded in all altitude zones. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
