Avalanche conditions are starting to change, be alert for areas of wind deposited snow
Cloudy with light flurries possible today with temperatures steady around -9 at treeline. Wind is due to pick up to moderate from the SW tonight with snow starting to accumulate to 5cm by the end of Saturday and rising temperatures. Sunday 20cm with mod-strong S wind.
10 cm of new snow covers a mixture of surface facets, old wind affected snow, sun crusts and surface hoar. Ski pen is up to 35cm in sheltered areas. The snowpack is predominantly made up of strong rounded crystals. Critical layers from earlier in the winter are dormant for now.
Skier accidentals from the Ravens on wednesday and Avalanche Crest a few days ago show that safe travel practices are always recommended in any avalanche terrain. Windslabs have been reported developing at and above treeline. Solar and skier triggered sluffing have also been reported. Minimize exposure to cornices and glide cracks
