Avalanche Summary

You can trigger an avalanche on steep slopes where winds have drifted snow into meringue-like smooth pillows. You can find these close to ridgelines, in gullies, and on convex rolls. The avalanche you trigger may run on weak old snow recently buried or step down to weaker layers buried around crusts. You can find safer travel on slopes without wind-affected snow and on lower-angle slopes.
