Tetons
Avalanche danger
Highlights
Avalanches could be triggered on steep, isolated slopes at upper elevations on northerly aspects. Soft slabs may involve recent surface snow layers to 10 inches. Deeper slabs to 18 inches down to the October surface could be released by multiple people on a slope. The warm snowpack is gaining strength as sun crusts and damp snow cools. Below 9,000 feet, a shallow snowpack quickly thins and avalanche activity is unlikely.
Avalanche Discussion
Skies on Thanksgiving will be mostly clear. Temperatures in the mountains will be in the single digits in the morning and rise into the teens in the afternoon. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Instability persists on some steep upper elevation northerly aspects. Good snowpack stability evaluation and route finding skills can be used to avoid these unstable areas.
