Avalanche Activity

Moist snow slides and avalanches and gliding avalanches are possible already in the early morning.

As a consequence of high temperatures, partly cloudy skies and the strong southerly foehn wind, no crust will develop on the surface during the course of the night. All aspects: As the penetration by moisture increases more wet and gliding avalanches are possible at any time, even large ones in isolated cases. These can to an increasing extent be released by people or triggered naturally. Naturally triggered avalanches and field observations indicate this situation.

Snowpack Structure

The spring-like weather conditions gave rise to increasing moistening of the old snowpack in all aspects. The surface of the snowpack will freeze very little and will soften quickly. Backcountry tours should be started and concluded very early. Caution is to be exercised in areas with glide cracks.

Tendency

Further increase in danger of wet and gliding avalanches as a consequence of the rain.
