Avalanche Activity

Watch out for slabs of new snow!

Moderate avalanche danger (2nd degree) is declared in the high altitudes of the High and Western Tatras. After a period of warm weather with positive temperatures, it will get colder. Precipitation will also appear, snow from about 1300 m above sea level. Up to 15 cm of new snow will fall. Wind may cause snow slabs to form. In places where new snow falls on old hard icy ground, it is possible to release an avalanche, especially with a large additional load. Due to the amount of precipitation expected, only small or medium avalanches will occur.

Snowpack Structure

Due to the cooling, the snow is hard. Up to 15 cm of new snow falls. At altitudes up to 1500 m above sea level, there is only patchy snow cover.

Tendency

With snowfall rising. pk
