The danger of moist and wet avalanches will increase during the day.
The fresh snow and the mostly small wind slabs formed during the snowfall can be released, especially by large additional loads, at high altitude. This applies in particular on very steep slopes, as well as at the base of rock walls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. In particular on very steep slopes small and medium-sized gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Naturally triggered avalanches and penetration of the old snow cover indicate the existence of a weak snowack. Backcountry tours should be started early and concluded timely.
Over a wide area 5 to 30 cm of snow has fallen since Sunday above approximately 2100 m. The sleet gave rise on Tuesday to moistening of the snowpack below approximately 2200 m. The surface of the snowpack has frozen to form a strong crust and will already soften in the late morning. This applies in particular on steep east, south and west facing slopes below approximately 2700 m, as well as on north facing slopes below approximately 2400 m. Below approximately 2200 m no snow is lying on south facing slopes.
The weather will be mild. A clear night will be followed by favourable conditions generally, but the danger of wet and gliding avalanches will increase later.
