Avalanche Activity

Fresh wind slabs above approximately 2200 m.

Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs will be covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Weak layers exist in the old snowpack especially on north, northeast and northwest facing slopes. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. This applies in particular on east and south facing slopes and. On wind-loaded slopes and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain the situation is more precarious.

Snowpack Structure

Especially shady slopes where weaknesses exist in the old snowpack are unfavourable. Over a wide area new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The wind slabs can still be released in some cases in particular on steep north, northwest and northeast facing slopes above approximately 2400 m.
