Highlights

Avalanche problems

  • Wind slab

    • All elevations

Snowpack Structure

The wind was strong to storm force. The strong wind has transported only a little snow. Wind slabs are lying on soft layers in particular on steep shady slopes. The old snowpack will be generally stable. At elevated altitudes snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.

Tendency

Low avalanche danger will prevail.

Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs require caution.

Wind slabs represent the main danger. Fresh and somewhat older wind slabs can be released in isolated cases at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep shady slopes and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. Mostly avalanches are small. They are to be avoided especially in very steep terrain. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.
