GC for 11/2/22. Unstable windslab mainly on N-E-SE aspects above 900m gaining depth on NW-NE aspects. Cornices! Considerable hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will persist mainly on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. During the day, fresh snow with wind redistribution will further develop windslab on mainly North-West to North East aspects above 900 metres. Slopes exposed to recent strong winds will be scoured and generally stable. Newly formed cornices will be fragile. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: After a dry and frosty night there will be snow showers in the morning followed by a drier afternoon when the freezing level will rise to around 600 metres. Moderate North-West winds back Southerly and become light overnight before slowly increasing through the day. Observed Weather Influences: Very strong Westerly wind and snow showers during morning. In the afternoon the wind lessened in strength and it became drier. The freezing level was around 650 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Poorly bonded windslab is present in wind sheltered locations with greatest accumulations on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres with more isolated accumulations at lower elevations. Slopes exposed to the strong wind are generally scoured and stable. Recently formed cornices are fragile. The avalanche hazard is Considerable.
