SC 15.02 Unstable windslab will form on N through E to S aspects above 850m. Cornices forming. Avalanche hazard Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: Unstable windslab will build, mainly on North-East to South-East aspects above 850 metres with more limited amounts on North and South aspects. Deepest deposits will be found in steep wind sheltered locations such as gully tops and corrie rims. Fragile cornices will form, largest on North-East to South-East aspects. Elsewhere, isolated drifts at lower levels will be encountered with areas exposed to the wind, scoured and bare. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: New snowfall, heaviest around dawn with light showers throughout the day will fall at all levels. Winds, Southerly overnight, becoming gale force Westerlies throughout the day. The 500 metre freezing level will rise to 600 metres, later falling to 500 metres again. Observed Weather Influences: The freezing level was around 900 metres with occasional snow showers. Winds, mostly Northerly overnight, veering North-North-Westerly during the day and increasing to severe gale force. ObservedSnowStability: Snow showers mainly fell onto bare ground. Limited pockets of deeper snow are forming in wind sheltered locations on some Easterly aspects but mainly wind sheltered features on South-East to South-West aspects above 900 metres. Isolated deeper drifts can also be found at lower levels. New accumulations are generally avoidable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
