    The new snow is your focus today. Regions to the north of us experienced widespread instability over the weekend within the new snow, and numerous human triggered avalanches occurred. I noticed a clean shear within the newest snow on Saturday here in our region. I am not all that concerned about how dangerous the new snow is HOWEVER, you should do your homework when you get into the hills today before getting onto anything steep. Looks for any recent avalanches. Watch for cracking within the new snow. Do slope cuts on test slopes to see if you can initiate any cracking in the new snow. If conditions are unstable, the avalanches won't be all that deep but still could cause you harm.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: Last night's storm did slightly better than anticipated. 5 to 9 inches of snow stacked up over the last 24 hours. The northern end of the Skyline picked up the most new snow. Temperatures briefly got above 20˚F on Sunday and dropped back into the mid teens overnight. Wind from the southwest has been light to moderate in speed.

Mountain Weather: We should see mostly cloudy skies today with temperatures in the mid teens. Wind from the west and southwest will be light to moderate in speed. I think we're going to have a couple of days of sunny weather this week. I'm not seeing any storms until about Monday of next week.
