Avalanche Discussion

On Saturday, a weak weather system will arrive to our area, bringing cooler temperatures after several days of warm weather and wet loose avalanche activity. The cooler temperatures should bring an end to the wet loose instabilities from the previous days. Use caution near firm, steep slopes where a long fall could occur.

We have been tracking two persistent weak layers this season (buried surface hoar and facets). These weak layers have been gaining strength (rounding). In addition, Forecasters have not been getting any unstable results with column tests. We have removed  persistent slab from the forecast due to the lack of avalanches on these layers, lack of recent concerning test results, and these layers gaining strength.
